John Spackman
born Merthyr Tydfil
Resides Dilwyn, Herefordshire.
Attended Cyfarthfa from 1943 until 1948 then left to Wellington Grammar School; joined the army on National Service in 1950; took regular commission in 1952, served in various regimental and technical appointments until retiring as a brigadier in 1982. During his army service he graduated from the Royal Military College of Science with 1st Honours and went on to read for a PHD in Physics as an external student of London University.
After retiring from the army he was appointed as Director of the Operational Strategy in the DHHS as an under-secretary and after three years was offered the post of Director Information Systems for British Telecom. On leaving BT he acted as a consultant in telecommunications and computing.
